In 1957, Pearl and Walter Bloom founded Camp Playland of New Canaan. Their son, Gary, joined them in 1977 and continues to run the New Canaan campus with his wife Barbara. Gary and Barbara live year-round on the campgrounds, operating a nursery school during the school year and camp during the summer months.

In 1996 Walter and his son, Richard, launched a second business to bring children in northern Fairfield County the rewarding experience of a premier summer day camp. Richard and his wife, Barbara, built their residence on the Redding site, continuing the tradition of camping as a family endeavor.

Both camps are modeled on the philosophy first developed by the founders. The Bloom families are dedicated to providing campers with a safe, healthy, fun-filled and instructional summer. We offer a skill development program that enables each child to grow and learn at his or her own level while having fun!

Camp Playland of New Canaan, located on ten beautifully wooded acres, is situated in an ideal spot on Ponus Ridge Road. The campus is surrounded by over one hundred acres of undeveloped woodland, creating a perfect camp setting. Facilities include three heated pools, ballfields, pond for boating and fishing, low ropes course, multi-purpose court area for basketball and other sports, introductory tennis rink, archery range, outdoor theater, picnic pavilion, classrooms, arts & crafts area, music areas, play areas, nature building and more.

Camp Playland of Redding is located on 35 beautiful acres, minutes from Route 7. Wooded areas and natural wetlands produce an extraordinary environment for our camp program.

Richard Bloom directs Playland of Redding, and Gary Bloom directs Playland of New Canaan. Both Richard and Gary are graduates of the University of Pennsylvania. The brothers grew up in the camping business and are dedicated to providing a safe, fun-filled and enriching summer for young children.

Campers are placed in a group of sixteen to twenty campers according to school grade. A senior counselor and one or more junior counselors lead each group. The senior and junior counselors stay with the group and escort campers through six activity periods daily. Every activity is programmed and taught by specialists who have expertise in their area. There is one counselor for every four campers at Playland.

Staff members are selected for their maturity, ability, experience and sincere love of children. Your children will see many of our staff members returning year after year, enhancing their feeling of Camp Playland as a family they come back to each summer.

Campers are transported to and from camp by school van or bus using professional drivers. Camp counselors ride with the campers and are bus monitors, insuring a safe, fun ride.

Playland Nursery School was started in 1976 and is located at Camp Playland of New Canaan. The ten-acre facility includes classrooms, playgrounds, fields, a pond and nature trails. There are four separate classrooms at Playland. Two four-year-old classes and one three-year-old class meet daily from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A second three-year-old class meets Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Children may bring their lunch and stay for an extended day. Our “Lunch Bunch” program is offered several days each week from 12:30 until 2:25 p.m. During this time, our three and four year olds are combined.

We believe that your child's first school experiences should be nurturing, fun and unpressured. At Playland we combine short structured activities with longer open classroom experiences for a well-balanced program.

Our loving, nurturing staff provides an enriching program full of three dimensional, hands on activities. At Playland learning is fun because we learn by doing. Our program is rich in literature, music, art and play.
